Development and laboratory testing of a 138 kV PPP-insulated joint for commercial application

The design, development, and laboratory testing of a PPP (paper/polypropylene/paper)-insulated joint for commercial application on 1389 kV PPP-insulated cable are presented. The design approach taken is conservative and addresses the typical variations in field conditions and in skill and workmanship of the splicing. Joint construction details, including choice of connector, taping structure, and joint mechanical reinforcement, are discussed. The test criteria are described, and results are presented. >
