TRANSPORTATIONAL AND OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS ANALYSIS OF THE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM TAXI IN BERLIN

The research project entitled "Computerised Operation of Demand-Responsive Public Road Transport Systems" is concerned with studying the possibilities of employing a central system to control large fleets of vehicles. The research project is divided in 3 parts: Present state of the Taxi service, simulation and analysis. In the first part a study of the present state of the taxi system is being carried out with regard to its operational control system, traffic structure and economy in operation. At the same time existing data processing and communications systems are being studied to see how they could be used to control a vehicle fleet of appox. 5,000 vehicles. If necessary, alternatives will be developed. In the simulation part of the study the results from the analysis are being used to develop new operational models. Simulation programmes will then help to investigate the effects of these models. In the analysis part of the study the results from the other parts are being analysed and suitable operational control methods for improving the taxi system will be determined. Detailed system descriptions will be compiled for the concepts selected and the system requirements will also be drawn up.
