Social Networks and Music Worlds is a contribution to the social scientific study of music. It proposes the use of Social Network Analysis for the study of music in society, examining a number of music worlds in turn. The collection explains how social networks are critical for the creation, distribution and reception of music. It provides social network perspectives on a number of music scenes: punk, jazz, folk, classical music, Riot Grrrl, indie acoustic, and R&B and calypso. Complementary chapters provide further perspectives by explaining how social networks shape the careers of young music graduates, and how they influence audience tastes, The collection builds upon insights from canonic texts in the sociology of music, drawing Social Network Analysis into the field.
