Lens arrays and optical system for orthoscopic three-dimensional imaging

Abstract An optical system for recording three-dimensional images using the principle of integral photography is reported. The key components are the multiple arrays of planospherical lenses incorporated in a camera that will record and reconstruct orthoscopic images displaying colour, parallax and depth. This paper describes the fabrication and testing of the lens arrays and results obtained with three-dimensional images. The work has encouraged old ideas to be re-examined, enabled special lens arrays to be developed and demonstrated the potential of the integral imaging process.
