Publisher Summary This chapter discusses an isolated flyback converter with voltage-mode control. The flyback converter's main energy storage inductor may operate in two modes: discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) and continuous conduction mode (CCM). The chapter discusses DCM using the voltage-mode and the peak current-mode controls. It focuses on the determination of critical inductance, the AC small-signal studies for DCM with peak-current mode, the DC studies for CCM with both voltage-mode and current-mode, and the steady-state time-domain output. DCM duty cycle was determined based on the concept of total energy transfer.
