Multi-user mmWave communication by interleaved beamforming with inter-subarray coding

The research on millimeter-wave communication is very hot all over the world because of the large bandwidth and beamforming. However, the high power consumption due to the large number of high speed DACs/ADCs is the obstacle of utilizing full digital beamforming. Therefore, in this paper, we achieve a novel hybrid beamforming: interleaved beamforming with inter-subarray coding. At first, spatially interleaved antennas are grouped to generate narrow beams with analog phase shifters. Then, inter-subarray coding is added to cancel the grating lobes and provide high SIRs. Based on the data transmission experiments, the system supports multiple users' access at the same time by beam multiplexing.
