Workshop on empirical studies of programmers

While there has been considerable effort expended studying "programs," comparatively little effort has been expended studying "programmers." Howeve:c, since programmers, by and large, generate the programs, it seems only reasonable that we might gain some insight into programs by studying how programmers do it. Armed with this type of understanding, we should be in an excellent position to then prescribe tools and procedures that are addressed specifically to the problems programmers have been observed to have.
