Nonlinear Organic Materials For VLSI Photonics

Nonlinear optical and electro‐optic materials are potentially very interesting for VLSI photonic applications. The required material parameters for devices such as active microring resonators are discussed. Organic nonlinear materials are considered as especially attractive due to relatively high and fast nonlinearities compared to their inorganic counterparts. Design strategies for nonlinear organic materials are reviewed and the issue of improving their thermal and photostability is discussed.
