INTERNATIONAL ACCIDENT FACTS. SECOND EDITION

The objective of this report is to provide a basic understanding of the worldwide scope of the accidental injury problem and how it varies from country to country, age group to age group, industry to industry, and year to year. Part 1 presents comparisons among countries of deaths and death rates for the principal causes of accidental death - motor vehicles, falls, drownings, fires, and poisonings. It also presents deaths, rates, and nonfatal injuries resulting from occupational injuries (and occupational diseases and commuting accidents in some countries). Part 2 presents the basic data from which the presentations in Part 1 were derived. These data are included for readers who may want to examine them more closely. Part 3 summarizes data for selected individual countries. Data on all accidental deaths, motor-vehicle-related deaths, and occupational fatalities are emphasized here.
