Abstract The working draft sequence of the human genome is a tool for identifying genetic causes and therapeutic targets for the treatment of neurological disease. The emerging map contains 30 000–35 000 protein-coding genes and more than two million markers to help map disease-causing genes. Mining information from this database to further our understanding of human disease is the next great challenge.
