Development of an Earth environmental database system which interacts with application software

With increasing interest in Earth environmental issues, an Earth environmental database system that can handle various types of relevant data is needed. While currently available databases are accessible by the Internet and enable users to acquire and observe data, they lack the interactive functions that are important to most applications such as simulation to predict future Earth environmental phenomena. Our research is therefore geared to the development of an Earth environmental database which interacts with application software. The goal is a database which stores not only input data but result data and its parameters, creating a unified database. In other words, the ability to manage both kinds of data makes the database more suitable for simulation applications. Further, we analyzed users' interests (based on usage patterns) and developed a system which alerts users to the arrival of new data or new results calculated by other users which should be of interest to them.
