Numerical model for the behavior and capacity of circular CFT columns, Part II: Verification and extension

This paper deals with the behavior and capacity of circular concrete-filled tube stub columns under extreme loading conditions. The numerical model, presented in the companion paper, is verified with the aid of comparisons against the existing experimental and analytical results. Furthermore, the proposed method is extended where the analytical relations for the capacity of circular CFT columns are presented. These relations are valuable in the practice of engineering design since they provide a direct, compact and efficient representation of the ultimate strength of circular CFT columns. The comparisons between numerical, analytical and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed methods provide very good numerical performance for the behavior of circular CFT columns.
