Range extension control system for electric vehicle with active front steering and driving/braking force distribution on curving road

One of the big problems with electric vehicles is the short mileage per charge. The mileage per charge is dependent on batteries. Extending the mileage per charge needs to improve the capacity of batteries. In this paper, a new method called “range extension control system” is proposed. This system generates the yaw-moment on curving road with front steering and yaw moment generated by torque difference between left and right motors. It is possible to decrease cornering resistances and improve the mileage per charge. Simulations and experiments are carried out to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.
