A weighted-output variant of the Viterbi algorithm for concatenated schemes using a convolutional inner code

We describe a means for weighting the output of Viterbi decoding. At variance with previous similar algorithms, it results from simplifying the optimum weighted-output decoding rule. Simulation results over both the additive Gaussian channel and the Rayleigh fading channel are reported.
