social workers in patient care more often. They more often disagreed with the statements that homelessness is generally due to fecklessness, that psychoanalysis is not much better than a form of quackery, and that health education has only limited value in school curricula. The linear scale used to measure responses to other questions on attitudes also showed some interesting differences, especially related to seniority. Applying the X2 test, there were several significant differences between behavioural science students and their contemporaries, in responses to the first group of statements, but most of these differences ceased to be significant when behavioural science students were compared with students making direct entry into second year, whose prior academic attainments were as a rule more impressive; perhaps, therefore, the differences reflect level of intelligence or ability, rather than attitudes and perceptions acquired through exposure to behavioural science.
