Analysis of Composition and Caloric Value of Municipal Solid Waste in Shanghai

An analysis is made of the composition,combustion characteristic and caloric value of(municipal) solid waste(MSW) in Shanghai.The experiment results show that,in MSW of Shanghai,the percent of refuse with size range from 40 to 120 mm,size range from 8 to 40 mm,size 120 mm and size 8 mm is 43.5%,34.9%,15.7% and 5.8%,respectively.Of the 12 kinds of matter in(Shanghai) MSW,the organics is about 65% and combustible(plastics,papers,textile,packing,block) about 30%.Organics is unsuitable for incineration treatment because of higher moisture and lower caloric value.The combustible is suitable for incineration treatment because of lower moisture and higher caloric value.Comprehensive treatment for Shanghai MSW is proposed.
