Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia in a female urethral mass

nodule. It is a benign vascular proliferation which occurs in the lumen of either normal vessels or vascular malformations, as was established by Clearkin and Etzinger in their study of 46 cases [2]. The typical clinical presentation is that of a nodule in the fingers or toes, head or neck, in a young adult, mainly women. However, that it can appear on preexisting vascular malformations makes this pattern of presentation variable. Its location in the female urethra has, to the best of our knowledge, only been reported occasionally, which is surprising when considering that urethral vascular proliferations are not uncommon, especially in children [3]. In 1932, Henschen described some lesions, which were similar to Masson’s tumour, in urethral caruncula [4], and in 1983, Barua et al. [5] reported a case of IPEH in the female urethra of a menopausal woman, having hormonal status in common with the present patient.
