Facebook for teaching and learning: Exploring the research report writing actvities via Facebook group

This study aims to investigate the kinds of language teaching and learning activities being carried out via Facebook. It also intends to explore on how the use of Facebook can facilitate the teaching and learning of English among college students. The study employed a case study design on 35 students and 1 lecturer during a research report writing course. The data were collected through document analysis, observation checklist and semi-structured interviews. The data were analysed using thematic analysis. The primary findings from the field notes indicated that the use of Facebook has facilitated the lecturer in terms of administering the course, supplying reading sources, managing students’ assignments and online lecture notes.  On the other hand, the use of Facebook has facilitated students through providing them with free access knowledge, access to the lecturer and course mate and promoting independent learning.  This study implicates that such online platforms can be used to optimize and extend the teaching and learning process inside and outside of lecture rooms.
