Evaluation of the performance of lubricants using an FZG test rig

Standardised component tests play an important role in lubricant development. They allow a simple evaluation of the performance of lubricants. In such tests, the reproducibility of the tests is essential. However, the most inconspicuous elements of the measuring chain, namely the feather key, can cause the results to be falsified when tests are carried out on the FZG back-to-back test bench. This article shows how some of the possible errors can be avoided and how the lubricant tests can be carried out correctly and reproducibly.
