Infant mortality among New Mexican Hispanics, Anglos, and Indians.

New Mexican Hispanics Anglos and Indians are initially compared through endogenous exogenous and total aggregate infant mortality rates. The cause-specific rates show whether ethnic groups are differentially affected by environmental causes (accidents homicides infections) or inborn causes (congenital malformations prematurity). Hispanic and Anglo rates are equivalent. Indian exogenous and total aggregate infant mortality rates are statistically higher than either Hispanic or Anglo rates. The data are from matched birth and death records of infants under one year of age who were born in the U.S. state of New Mexico from 1974 through 1977. (EXCERPT)
