Transformation of Different Kinds of Electromagnetic Waves Using Metamaterials

We propose a simple transformation method of two different kinds of electromagnetic waves using metamaterials. We design the electromagnetic parameters with spatial variations to control the phase speeds of waves in different directions. Then we investigate the transformation from cylindrical and spherical waves to plane waves. Full-wave numerical simulations validate the proposed method. Comparing with the optical-transformation approach, the proposed structures are much easier to be realized, which can be used either as high-performance antennas or focusing lenses.
