The influence of quantitated post-weaning undernutrition on coxsackievirus B3 infection of adult mice. II. Alteration of host defense mechanisms.

The reasons for the markedly enhanced susceptibiltiy of the severely malnourished mice to infection with coxsackievirus are not known. However, the virtual absence of a mononculear inflammatory cell infiltrate in the hearts and livers of the severely malnourished mice 7 days following inoculation with virus suggested that there was a defect in the lymphoid system of these animals.
