Outage Probability of Selection Cooperation in the Low to Medium SNR Regime

Selection has been shown to be an effective and practical method of implementing cooperative diversity. However, the available analysis has largely focused on diversity order and the asymptotically high signal to noise ratio (SNR) regimes. We approximate the outage probability of selection cooperation for all SNR levels and arbitrary channel distributions. The approximations are significantly better than the available high-SNR approximations for practical values of outage probability.
