Optimization of optical absorption coefficient in asymmetric double rectangular quantum wells by PSO algorithm

Abstract Optical absorption coefficient for asymmetric double rectangular quantum wells is optimized by the use of the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. By applying this method and numerical solution of Schrodinger equation, optimal quantum structure is determined for maximized absorption coefficient. Results show that the total absorption coefficient for this structure is 2.5365 × 10 5 m − 1 and its sensitivity is more than the changes of the first well width. Then the refractive index changes are investigated by using the density matrix method.
