Power and size comparison of optical and electronic signal processing technologies

We report a comparison of power consumption and size in devices for optical and electronic signal processing. This comparison reveals that optical technologies are several orders of magnitude larger in size and/or consume several orders of magnitude more power than CMOS devices.
