Research on Space Orientation Signature Design of Rail Transit Station

Space orientation signature design of urban rail transit system plays an important part in structure and organization management. Perfect signature system can reduce travel time that passengers spend in the station and let the passengers have efficient trip. Moreover, it is beneficial for improving the operation efficiency of urban rail transit station. The way-finding experiment in a rail transit station is proposed to illustrate the orientation signature design in this paper. Firstly, the signature survey is performed. The location and type of signs are analyzed to show the role in passengers' route choice. Secondly, way-finding experiment is performed to describe the characteristics of each route and the relationship between the orientation signs and route choice. Thirdly, the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS)) is proposed to obtain the best choice considering the factors such as the distance, the number of the signatures, the number of stop for observation. Fourthly, the sensitivity analysis is proposed to estimate the influence of the factors on the route choice. It can be shown that the route choice can be affected by the signature system design. Passengers pay attention to the signs on the platform and the junction of platform and channel. Meanwhile, they spend more time on identification signs and pay more attention on the guidance signs. The bright routes with more signatures are easy to choose by passengers. Therefore, the passenger flow distribution of the rail transit system can be guided according to the reasonable signature design involved the number, and the location of the signals. It is beneficial that the signature system can not only improve the efficiency of operating organization of rail transit station but also can be helpful to the passenger evacuation.
