Process Bus Network Flow Modeling for Protective Relaying Testing in IEC 61850-Based Substation

Testing is very important to the dependability, reliability and security of the protective relaying system. In order to increase the testing efficiency and improve the reliability of the protective relaying system, a process bus network flow model, including a network connection model, a publishing model, a subscribing model and a port communication model, is developed in this paper. Based on the process bus network flow model, a fault location method and a method for intelligent electronic device (IED) automatic isolation are proposed. In order to verify the accuracy of the developed models and proposed methods, a simplified protective relaying system of an IEC 61850-based substation is employed to present a case study. The proposed models and methods are applied to the case and the fault location results and IED isolation plan generating results demonstrate that the proposed models and methods have enough accuracy and can increase the efficiency of protective relaying testing.
