The analyses show that single mothers have travel patterns which a) are different from comparable married parents of either sex, and b) are not influenced by simple economic variables. The paper concludes that single mothers are a very vulnerable group even if they have moderate incomes; their children are more at risk than those of married couples because they may be forced to make dangerous of dysfunctional travel choices
