The University of Sheffield Library Information Commons: A Case Study

ABSTRACT This article describes the new Information Commons building at the University of Sheffield, which opened in 2007 as a joint project between the university library and the university's information technology services department. The building is described from architectural and operational viewpoints, and the planning processes that led to its construction are outlined. The impact of the Information Commons is assessed and some potential lessons for others considering similar projects are explored.
