Exploiting theB andwidth-Di stanceRelationship inUnderwater Acoustic Networks

Inthispaperwe studytherelationship between effective useoftheavailable bandwidth, energyconsumption, andtransmission delay inaUnderwater Wireless Acoustic Sensor Network(UWASN). We compare different solutions totransport datatoa sinknode, namelymultihop transmissions through multiple relays andtheuseofdirect relay-to-sink links that require morepowerbutreachthesinkinonehop. We also address theeffects ofdifferent error control policies. Ouranalysis showsthattheenergy consumption canbetraded offfordelay by choosing different policies andbyvarying somekeyparameters ineachpolicy.
