Induction electrohydrodynamic pumping-selecting an optimum working fluid

An induction electrohydrodynamic (EHD) pump in a horizontal configuration was built. Different dielectric fluids were compared to establish which produced the best pumping performance. Experimental results show that pumping performance depends on fluid properties, primarily fluid viscosity and electrical conductivity. Pumping velocities as high as 35 cm/s with doped, 100 p.p.m., n-hexane were achieved. This improvement makes induction EHD pumping attractive for certain industrial applications.<<ETX>>
