Communication in a Virtual Environment

In a VDS, communication becomes a central aspect of the design activity. Although we usually think of communication as a conversation or a memo, communication can be more broadly defined to include the explicit statement of ideas for yourself or another person to comprehend. An extreme view is that designing is communication. Designers communicate their ideas when they sketch, model, and draw during the various design phases. In a VDS, communication is primarily computer-mediated and this may have implications on the kinds of designs produced as well as the ability to progress and direct the design.
