Crosstalk Mitigation in WDM Systems: Experiment

We demonstrate the effectiveness of phase scrambling for mitigating interfer-ometric crosstalk in a monolithically integrated WDM optical cross-connect. Using bandpass noise with a proper scrambling format we manage to perform satisfactory transmission at moderate data speeds even though the crosstalk level per channel is around —15 dB. This result demonstrates the feasibility of optical networking employing integrated switching technologies by using phase scrambling to increase the tolerance towards interferometric crosstalk.
