The main work during the initial stage of power system restoration is to restart the generators. At present, searching the optimal recovery path is mainly based on the objective of restoring the whole system. Considering that the DC converter station is able to supply large amounts of power generation, it can accelerate the restoration, if the DC converter station is restarted preferentially. However, the restarting of DC converter station needs to meet certain constraints. Thus, the optimal recovery path of the DC converter station is studied in this paper. The objective is to minimize the restoration time of the DC converter station, with constraints of starting DC converter station, traditional generators that are reactive power, self-excitation and start power, and power flow constraints of the grid considered. The optimal recovery path is searched by the Dijkstra's algorithm and the breadth - first search algorithm. The validity of the proposed method is demonstrated by the application to 10-machine-39-bus New England power system.
