Preventive and corrective approaches are used for the maintenance of electrical power systems. Preventive maintenance is the more recent trend within the maintenance area, as it has adequate logistical support. This paper presents the existing method of maintaining overhead distribution lines. A project is also presented for the creation of a modern and effective maintenance system with the use of advanced maintenance systems for electrical infrastructures. The use of advanced logistical technologies is based on collecting infrastructure information about overhead power lines and the ancillary equipment of electrical power system, with the use of laser monitoring. Construction and introduction of logistical applications, which connect databases of infrastructures with geographical information systems and electrical grid control, is introduced further on. The previously mentioned logistical applications enable key support for the efficiency of maintenance system organization. The core of the suggested maintenance system is the grid monitoring system program tool, which offers support for decisions above reliability-centered maintenance. This new suggested way of maintenance is applied to a practical problem. This paper also reflects on a comparison between the suggested and existing practices.
