Sports Biomechanics: Does it Have a Role in Coaching?

Focusing on their own research work in tennis serving, javelin throwing and cricket bowling, the authors discuss performance enhancement and injury reduction, areas with which sports biomechanics are most frequently involved. Issues such as laboratory vs. field-testing are also addressed. The authors argue that the sports biomechanist is concerned with performance optimisation in an injury-free environment. Working closely with coaches and performers, the sports biomechanist can play an integral role in athlete development.
