Method for detecting amount of the laundry in a washing machine

A method for detecting the amount of laundry articles in a washing machine is provided to accurately detect the amount of the laundry articles by minimizing the influence due to the unbalance of the laundry articles. A method for detecting the amount of laundry articles in a washing machine detects the amount of laundry articles by using a torque shaft current of a motor generating the rotational drive force in the rotary tub. The method includes the steps of: uniformly accelerating the motor to a goal speed(S101); detecting the torque shaft current of the motor if the speed of the motor reaches a set speed(S103); and detecting the amount of laundry articles on the basis of the detected torque current(S108). The amount of the laundry articles is detected by using the torque shaft current obtained by low pass-filtering the detected torque shaft current.
