Research on Updating of Cable-stayed FE Bridge Model Based on Measurements of Cable Tensions

As a major stressed member, the inclined cable is of utmost importance to the stressed conditions of the cable-stayed bridge. In this paper, taking a single pylon cable-stayed bridge model as the object of laboratory tests, the updating technique of the FE model of cable-stayed bridge structure was studied on the basis of measurements of cable tensions. The initial FE model was set up in the shell mode on the ANSYS platform.Static loading tests were made with the initial model.Cable tensions were measured under different operating conditions and were dealt with as the primary updating objectives whereas displacement responses were taken as the secondary updating objectives.By analysis of the sensitivity of structural parameters, the primary and secondary updating parameters of the initial model were obtained.By using the optimized ANSYS modules the initial FE model was updated. With the initial model updated for different operating conditions, the calculated cable tensions and displacements were all consistent with the measured cable tensions and displacements and the structural parameters carried explicit physical meanings. The updated FE model can be used as the reference model in later bridge damage detection researches. The proposed method provides reference to updating of large-span cable-stayed FE bridge models.
