Leaf‐shaped monopole antenna with extremely wide bandwidth

A leaf-shaped monopole antenna with an extremely wide bandwidth is introduced. The antenna is composed of a leaf-shaped metal sheet with three circular holes vertically mounted on the ground plate covered by a dielectric layer. Its measured −10-dB return-loss frequency range is from 1.3 to 29.7 GHz with ratio bandwidth of about 22:1. This antenna provides bandwidth covering the L, C, X, and Ku bands and exhibits a nearly omnidirectional radiation pattern with a simple structure, which is suitable for various military and commercial ultra-wideband applications. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
