Book review: Knowledge Representation and Defeasible Reasoning. Edited by Henry E. Kyburg, Jr., Ronald P. Loui, and Greg N. Carlson (Kluwer Academic Press)

This book is a collection of papers stemming from a meeting held in Rochester in the spring of 1987. The meeting brought together people from three areas: Artificial Intelligence, Philosophy, and Computational Linguistics. From the introduction:The idea behind the meeting ... was to bring all three groups together for the purpose not merely of exchanging ideas ... but for the purpose of exchanging technology, theorems, axioms --- the stuff of which substantive, permanent, scientific progress is made.
