A New Evaluation Instrument

In the near future a new evaluation instrument will appear on the edu cational markets. Conceived by Dr. George Angel? of Michigan State College and perfected by Dr. Angell in collaboration with Dr. Maurice Troyer of Syracuse University its remarkable potentialities are based upon the principle that benefits derived from desirable evaluation procedures are enhanced by immediate knowledge of the results of this evaluation. This instrument, used as an examination answer sheet, resembles in appearance and operation the traditional ' 'cigar store punchboard". It is so constructed that responses to multiple choice type questions are made by punching out one of ?ve avail able spaces provided for each item. If the subject has selected the correct response the punched out space appears as a red dot due to a marked under lying key sheet. If an incorrect response has been selected a white dot appears on the underlying sheet. Subjects are instructed to continue respond ing to each examination item until they have answered it successfully as indicated by the appearance of the red dot. Thus the student knows the correct answer to each test item immediately and in effect grades his own paper as he completes the examination. The final grade is tabulated accord ing to the number of punches expended in arriving at correct answers.
