Indirect Converters and Oversampling for Application in Monolithic Smart Sensors

Conventional sensors are inadequately applicable in systems. Electronics incorporated in sensors have the potential to take away the deficiencies, which are to blame for a large diversity in interfaces and communication, and a chaotic distribution of compensation functions. In the architecture of ‘smart’ sensors systems opinions differ towards the distribution of the diverse electronic functions between sensor and system controller. As more concepts will emerge, the sensor interface is challenged to multi-purpose application. From the one side it should interface with diverse sensor elements, from the other side cooperate with the diverse communication configurations. Indirect and oversampling A/D techniques present appealing versatility towards application in integrated smart sensors.
