Bone marrow transplantation—The Marsden experience

Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) was first successful at the Royal Marsden Hospital in 1973 and although the programme was initially centred around treating aplastic anaemia, we soon applied the technique to acute leukaemia. Since then we have undertaken approximately 500 bone marrow transplants. This short review will cover some aspects of our programme.
