Design and Development of Slotted Patch Antenna for SHF Wireless Applications

A patch antenna consisting of a rectangular ring-shaped slot is studied for its size reduction, impedance bandwidth, resonant frequency and radiation characteristics. A size reduction of 22% is achieved with fairly good omnidirectional radiation pattern characteristics. A detailed study is conducted and the effects of all its parameters such as air substrate, inverted patch configuration, probe fed patch as well as rectangular slot are discussed. The proposed antennas are well suited for various modern super high frequency wireless applications such as WiMax, maritime mobile services and fixed satellite services.
