Prolate Filters for Nonadaptive Multitaper Spectral Estimators With High Spectral Dynamic Range

This letter presents a new prospect of selection of taper windows (prolate filters) in the multitaper spectral estimators for applications where very wide spectral dynamic range are of interest. Previous works have emphasized on the use of an adaptive approach to deal with such cases. However, the adaptive approach is computationally very expensive. The novel approach proposed in this letter avoids the need for adaptation, by suggesting a modification to the design of the taper windows.
