Planning and conducting formative evaluations

Stress is rightly laid upon interpersonal aspects, asking the right questions, varying media and methodology and using feedback to make revisions. However, one looks in vain for clear distinctions between, and definitions of, such basic processes as assessment and evaluation; formative and summative evaluation; diagnostic, criterion referenced and norm referenced assessment. Indeed, it is not easy to find much discussion of self-assessment and external assessment and combinations of the two.
