New asymptotic results on two fundamental approaches to mobile terminal location

Often, two-step parameter estimation schemes are preferred over single step schemes for mobile terminal location and other data-fusion applications. This choice is not justified in general. However, we prove here that in many cases of interest, both methods are asymptotically unbiased and efficient, while the single step performs better under unfavorable conditions such as low signal to noise ratio.
