Mitigating personnel exposure to the arc flash hazard

This paper describes one company's experience in assessing and mitigating personnel exposure to arc flash hazards associated with IEC-type equipment. It describes the process of assessing the arc flash hazard by system calculations and studies of exposure potential. It further discusses the selection of control measures to reduce severity by equipment design, and good engineering and work practices, as well as the specification of appropriate arc flash personal protection equipment (PPE).
