Control of an electric starter to a DC-embedded microgrid: Dynamical stability issue

This paper describes a new control method for the electric starter using a series DC motor where it is connected to a DC embedded microgrid. In some cases, one needs to reduce the number of sensors. Therefore, an observer should be used. The procedure to design such observer, it is usually done after design the controller. Thus, separation dynamics of the controller and observer must be held. With a proposed control strategy, the controller and observer are designed at the same time without separation of their dynamics. The starter motor for an engine is supplied energy by a microgrid with a moving DC bus through a DC-DC buck converter. In this study, the input voltage of the starter’s system can vary from 12 V to 50 V. The cable and the input capacitor forms an input LC filter. This filter might interact with the tightened controlled power converter. The stabilizer can be used to avoid the stability issue. The experimental results are given to validate the proposed approach compared to that obtained using the indirect-sliding mode control.
