In order to develop electrostatic precipitation units for roadtunnel, theoretical and experimental studies were conducted simultaneously concerning particle collection performance. The adopted type for the unit is two-stage parallel-plate electrostatic precipitator commonly called electronic air cleaner. Two different models were suggested with respect to spacing between two adjacent plates. Experimental particle collection performances for the two models were obtained by Atmospheric Dust Spot Efficiency Test Procedure of ASHRAE Standard 52.1-1992. In parallel, theoretical particle collection performances with respect to particle size were calculated using Yoo(1996)'s collection efficiency model. It was observed through the experimental and theoretical results that the TN-2 model having lower spacing with other same conditions show better particle collection performance than the the TN-1 model. It was confirm ed by the experimental results in each model that higher collection efficiencies are obtained in the case of higher applied voltage, smaller corona-wire radius, and lower air velocity. It was also shown from the theoretical results that the particle-size collection efficiency curves for the two models are all "V"-shaped in the submicron particle size range at the nominal air velocity of 7㎧.
